Wednesday Walks from Tollos
It was all the fault of Erik the Red. Not the Viking explorer, but the ex-cop who used to have a B & B in Castell de Castells. He offered walking holidays for UK tourists and excursions for resident Brits. up from the coast for the day. He was so good at it he even wrote a book: "The Wright Way", with 12 or so interesting routes between Castells and the Costa Blanca. Yes, you've guessed it - his real name was Eric Wright. He gave it all up in 1997 and moved to Teruel to escape to somewhere quieter. His successor Martin was more interested in mountain biking with overstressed and testosterone pumping executives from the City, so Eric's walkers from the coast were left with nowhere to go. Until, that is, I bumped into one of them in Javea and suggested they come up and walk from Tollos. It was a bit further to come, but they decided to give it a try. They must have decided the extra drive was worth the effort, because we're now in our ninth walking season. We meet for coffee at 10.00 a.m. every Wednesday, usually at Tollos, but sometimes in Castells or Alcalá. The walks are easy to moderate; the vistas are stunning and the company is always pleasant. Not only that, you get the chance to work up a good appetite for an excellent lunch. If you're interested, find out more on our website: www.antiga-escola.com.
